We mourn the passing of Al Baker, bass of our 1998 District Champs Free Trade Agreement and 2013 International Seniors Quartet Champs Border Patrol.
His courageous battle with cancer ended on March 22, 2016. Al competed and performed in quartets since 1969, some 20 times at the International level with 11 top twenty finishes. He won 5 District Quartet Championships in 3 different districts. He was a Society Judge Emeritus and a very active singing coach who served for 25 years as faculty at the Society’s Harmony College/University, as well as numerous District level schools including Harmony College East.
If you have sung in a quartet over the last 2 decades and went to HCE, you have probably benefited from a wonderful coaching session with Al; and, you know first-hand that he was a giving, sharing, and amiable guy who worked hard to help singers at all levels improve become more successful in their pursuit of close harmony.
Our condolences to Al’s family, close friends, the Ontario District, and his quartet pals over the years. Al, rest in harmony!
