In 1981, Lead Joe Mazzone, Bass Barry Brown, Tenor Ralph Childs, and Bari Ron Knickerbocker
decided to get together and see how it sounded. The result was Curtain Call. The quartet qualified right away
to compete at the 1981 International Quartet Contest in Detroit, finishing 18th.
Due to job "interference" they were unable to compete in the District Contest that fall.
At the 1982 International Contest in Pittsburgh, they were 9th after the first round, but fell a bit in the second round, finishing 14th.
That October, Curtain Call won the M-AD Championship. Much to the quartet's regret, job problems forced
them to stop singing shortly after their victory.
All four men had sung in previous M-AD champion quartets. Ralph was the tenor of the 1973 champs
Fifth Edition, Joe sang with the 1971 champions Exclusives, Joe and Ron sang with the
1972 champs (and 1974 International Champions) The Regents, and Barry sang with the 1970 champs
Union Jacks and the 1978 champions (and International 3rd. place medalists in 1979 in Minneapolis)
