Chapters & Choruses
Long Island Sound
Five Towns College, NY
Our chorus was the brainchild of Dave Johnson, an accomplished music educator and lifetime barbershopper who wanted to spread his enthusiasm for the barbershop style to student musicians. By starting a chapter at his own school, Professor Johnson was able to enlist his own students for this "experiment." Since Dave's passing, his former students have assumed the leadership responsibilities of the chorus, and many have gone on to greater glory as veteran quartet men and choral directors. The mission of the Long Island Sound Chorus has four basic tenets: - To foster barbershop-style singing at colleges and high schools - To learn and improve vocal technique used for a cappella singing - To encourage the development of quartets - To perform and compete The focus on vocal technique is apparent when you hear veteran singers exclaim, "I'm finally learning how to sing correctly." We love what we do in the FTC LI Sound Chorus, and we have a lot of fun doing it. We're always looking to grow our ranks with people who have the same passion, so come join us and find out what the excitement is all about. Respectfully, Hal Cohen President
