Charles F. 'Chuck' Harner, born 11/16/1935 Drexel Hill PA
Died 03/01/2017 Vienna VA (age 81)

Beloved husband of the late Marjorie Harner, whose memorial service in 2004 at Andrew Chapel UMC was attended by the Alexandria Harmonizer family. Chuck had a BS Chemical Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, 1957. Submarine Warfare Officer, U S Navy, 1957-79. CO, USS Patrick Henry SSBN-599 (Gold). Meritorious Service Medal. Retired with rank of Commander (O-5). Second career with Booz Allen Hamilton.

Joined SPEBSQSA, 11/03/1968 (48.3 years). Joined the Alexandria Virginia Chapter in 1976. Served as VP Program (1978) and President (1979-1980).

Member of Harmonizers first International Contest in 1978, won every medal through 2002 plus 2010. 'New Note' of the Year Award 1977. Harmonizer Memorial Award, 1989. Ibbianne & Wilbur Sparks Award to Marjorie & Chuck Harner 2003. Won 'Put-Together Quartet Contest' in 1979 with Pentagon Connection (Balderson, Shields, S Martin, Harner).

Supported the Harmonizers in many ways, including the fund raising sale of Entertainment Books. Feb & Oct of 1983, with Dan Lyons and Ken Fischer, he organized The King's Singers Kennedy Center concerts to benefit the Alexandria Harmonizers.

1980s & 1990s befriended barbershop fans Senator John Glenn and Annie Glenn. Facilitated their attendance at many Harmonizer annual shows, including two exchange concerts with the Western Hills (Cincinnati) Chapter from Glenn's native Ohio. Arranged for Alexandria Harmonizers 'CD's in Space' with Astronaut Glenn in 1998.

1996-2003 Dual member & President (2001-2002) of the former Centreville Virginia Chapter. BOTY Award 2003.

Dual member & chorus manager of the Mt. Vernon Virginia Chapter (Joined 2008).

2017 BHS International. Official Society Contest Administration Judge. Harmony Foundation International Board of Trustees, Secretary, Second Term. Presidents Circle. Member, AHSOW (1988).

Past Positions: Chair, 1988 Mid-Winter Convention, Wash DC. 50th Anniversary Committee 1985-88. 2017 MAD Board Member At Large. Chairman, Chapter Support Leadership Training. Certified Chapter Advocate. Member, DELASUSQUEHUDMAC (Elected 1983). Hall of Honor 2009. Potomac Area Counselor 1981, DVP Southern Division 1982-83 & 2011, DVP C&J 2007-2010, DVP CSLT 2011-2017, Chapter Counselor 2005-2013.
