The Nova Chords, first spelled-out as “No-Va-Kords” started in 1962 with Joe Craig on bass,
baritone Brian Rodda, lead Linton Reed and tenor Wayne Campbell. Scott Werner became lead
in 1964, John Adams tenor in 1965 and Dick Whitehouse, bass, joined in early 1967. With
Brian Rodda still singing baritone, this foursome won the 1967 Mid-Atlantic District Quartet
Championship. The year 1967 also marked the quartet’s first appearance in International
competition and they qualified to represent the Mid-Atlantic District in a total of twelve
successive International contests. They achieved top-ten finalist positions in several
contests and were awarded a fifth-place and a third-place medal.
John Hohl eventually replaced Brian Rodda on baritone, and continued in that position for the remainder of the quartet. John has now passed away.
All members of the Nova Chords were proud to be long-time members of the “Alexandria Harmonizers”
Chorus, providing support to that body as well as serving as elected officers and committee
chairmen of the Alexandria Chapter.
The competition circuit was not the only venue in which this foursome gained recognition.
The Nova Chords also performed on countless Chapter Shows throughout the country, and
early on, recognized the wonderful support from their friends and loyal supporters in the Mid-Atlantic District.
In summer of 2003, Brian Rodda passed away. Scott Werner is living in Florida and directing a new chorus, John Adams and Dick Whitehouse have passed away.
