Frederick (Freddie) Womer

In January, 1989, I began, at the young age of 15 Years old, singing Lead with the Dundalk, MD chapter, the Chorus of the Chesapeake. I have been an active member in the BHS for over 36 years, and the journey has been nothing short of amazing. Very quickly (1990) into my Junior year of High School, I was bitten by the quartet bug and started to sing Lead with Shockwave Quartet. College quickly took over my schedule and then in early 1993 I had the great opportunity to audition for an already established Quartet called Bingo Brothers. I won my first Mid-Atlantic District championship with Bingo at the ripe old age of 20 years old. I sang actively on many shows and eventually went to compete in my first BHS International contest in 1994, located in Pittsburgh, PA. Made the top 10 in my very first International Contest and it was quite the awesome experience. Soon after, I had to have laser surgery on my right vocal fold and Bingo Brothers retired. Quickly recovering after a hard 6 month recovery process, I then began singing in my next quartet, Premiere. We then went on to win the MAD contest in the fall of 1996. Competed in 10 International contests placing 3 times as a Quartet semi-finalist (as high as 13th). Having a great time singing in Premiere with my former baritone, in Bingo Brothers(Dennis Malone who won the 1983 International Quartet championship in the famous Side Street Ramblers) Denny moved away and I was blessed to have the privilege to sing with the incomparable Freddie King (Baritone, 1970 International Champs, Oriole Four). SO MUCH FUN!!! Freddie, was then replaced by the awesome Paul Grimes on Baritone and we sang for another 7 years with Paul. I was very blessed to become a Certified BHS singing Judge in 2019. Former Music Director of the Harbor City Chorus, Baltimore, MD chapter and Co-Music Director with the wonderful Dr. Jay Butterfield of the Keystone Capital Chorus, (Harrisburg, PA chapter) In 2015 became a charter member and the Lead section Leader of Parkside Harmony, Hershey, PA chapter which has become a perennial medalist chorus over the last decade. I still thoroughly enjoy coaching choruses and quartets. I love this art form with all my heart and soul and am so appreciative to give back to a community that has given me so very much!
